Problem Addressed
As infrastructures across the world age and deteriorate, many of the companies and governments responsible for them delay maintenance, only making repairs after accidents or incidents occur. Tracking the conditions of these infrastructures is difficult and resource intensive.
Project Description
Tekkon gamifies the collection and review of infrastructural data by incentivizing citizens to take photos of manholes, guardrails, telephone poles and other infrastructures. Users complete activities through a dog-themed NFT user avatar. Completed activities are rewarded with digital token rewards. Tekkon sells the collected data to utilities, lowering the cost of maintenance processes.
Progress to date
As of May 2024, Tekkon users had documented over 4.5 million manholes and over 1 million power poles just in Japan.
Business Model
Tekkon sells data collected by users to utility companies.
Traction
By May 2023, Tekkon had more than 128,000 active users with 90,000 in the Philippines alone. At that time, 30,000 photos were being uploaded each day.
