Problem Addressed

While Web3 presents many new opportunities for economic growth, job potential, and technological experimentation, the emerging industry still lacks diverse representation, particularly for Black women. The industry is projected to have a market size of $469.49B by 2030, yet Black women make up 0.001% of developers working in Web3 currently.

Project Description

Black Women Blockchain Council (BWBC) seeks to create opportunity for Black women in the blockchain and fintech industry. BWBC facilitates access to capital and resources for Black women in tech. They provide programs in STEM education, wealth inclusion and job preparation, and business mentorship through their startup incubator program. Other initiatives include blockchain educational programs, blockchain for kids, community outreach, networking sessions, and scholarship funds.

Progress to date

BWBC partnered with Web3 infrastructure and software company Consensys to launch a global joint initiative to increase the amount of Black women blockchain developers to 500,000 by 2030. This initiative involves an online bootcamp with specialized programming for Black women developers. BWBC offers additional blockchain courses, educational resources, industry events, and networking opportunities.
